Outrunning average means you have to do hard things.

There is one simple, hard truth about outrunning average. You have to intentionally choose to do things that are harder than average. Each season of life requires different levels of energy and effort. All season seem busy. No matter your season, in what area are you currently trying to outgrow, or move beyond the status quo?  Once you figure that out, you can come up with a plan to make it happen.

Three words. Nike Training Club . I love this app. It is free, it has lots of options and plans. It helps me get through the workouts I don't like--but that my body needs to be able to do new and harder things. I started with trying random workouts. This coming week my goal is to use the app for the runners cool-down after each run. I have been only able to fit in 2 runs per week. My goal this week is 3 runs. One 4 - 4.5 miler, the other 2 at least 3 miles. this runner cool-down takes 9 minutes to complete.

Sour Cream Sugar Cookie Recipe

The recipe that inspired outrunning average ... Giant Sugar Cookies f rom Martha Stewart's  Everyday Cooking 2 cups flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. baking soda 1 stick butter (unsalted, room temp.) 1 1/2 c. sugar 1 large egg 1 tsp. vanilla 1/4 cup sour cream Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Whisk dry ingredients in a medium sized bowl. Mix butter and sugar 2-4 minutes. Add egg and vanilla. Then alternate adding sour cream and dry mixture. Spoon (3 tablespoons) onto baking sheet. Bake 20-25 minutes. Rotate in oven half way through. If you are making the cookies "normal size" I bake for 15 minutes, still rotating half way through. They should just be starting to golden on the top when you take them out of the oven. * Also, if you aren't going to frost the cookies, the recipe recommends sprinkling sugar over the tops. I usually make a cream cheese/powder sugar frosting. Cream cheese cookie frosting: 4 12/-5 cups powdered sugar 8

A long time a go, when my kids were little, I blogged. Today, as I pulled up my old blog to find my favorite sugar cookie recipe, I had the same thought I have had many times since this those days of long ago. I love blogging. I love recording small pieces of my life.  I'm in a much different season, and cardigans and kids doesn't really describe my days anymore, but outrunning average does. In all my years of life, seasons have come and gone, but outrunning average has always motivated decisions--in good ways, and more complicated ways--it has shaped who I have become, what I still struggle to let go of, and pushes me to experiment and try new things, and helps me let go what doesn't work.
